General Awareness

  • Training/Awareness programs for teachers, government officers, and school students

NOU conducts workshops for teachers, government officers and school students on topics covering Ozone Layer, Ozone layer depletion and its harmful effects on climate change, biodiversity and human health. One of the objectives of conducting such workshops is awareness creation about the importance of protecting ozone layer and encourage their contribution towards restoration of fragile ozone layer.

Technical Awareness

The Ozone Layer act as a natural shield to protect human being living in the earth from harmful Ultra Violet rays reach from Sun. The scientists further found that, this natural shield was depleted due to some manmade chemicals known as Ozone Depleting Substances (ODSs) in 1970s. There are few ODSs that have being widely used as refrigerants and solvents (R-22, R-123, and R-141b) in Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Service (RAC) sector.  Refrigerants that are emitted to the atmosphere while repairing Ref/AC systems will cause to enhance depleting the Ozone Layer and increase global temperature.

In order to minimize this situation, the National Ozone Unit (NOU) of the Ministry has introduced new green technologies for RAC Service sector. Further NOU has organized three day “Good Practices in Refrigeration” workshops for RAC Service sector jointly with Technical colleges and Vocational Authority Training Centers. The objectives of organizing these workshops is to aware RAC Service technicians in new green service technologies and policies introducing to the sector.

The workshops conducted are categorized accordingly,

  • Green technology/new alternative refrigerants recovery and reclamation programme.
  • Recovery and reclamation programme for public and importers to promote non-ODS low GWP alternative.
  • Refresher training/awareness programs for servicing enterprise or technicians from servicing workshops
  • Good practices in refrigeration/new alternative refrigerants recovery and reclamation programme.
  • Capacity building programme for Enforcement officers (Custom/IECD)
  • National level RAC technicians training workshop for good servicing practices.
  • Implementation of RPL system for the technicians who engage in RAC industry.
